IRA Rollover Provision
Thanks to the charitable IRA legislation which has been extended through December 31, 2009, you can still make outright gifts using IRA funds without tax complications. If you are required to receive minimum distributions from your IRA and you do not need the money for personal use, consider using those funds as a charitable gift to Lauralton Hall. Although you cannot claim a charitable deduction for the IRA gifts, you will not pay income tax on the amount. The provision exempts from taxable income any funds directly transferred from an IRA to a charitable organization, like Lauralton Hall. The following limitations apply: you must be 70.5 years of age or older; your IRA gifts in 2009 may not total more than $100,000; your contribution must be a direct gift, not a planned gift. Please check with your IRA administrator and tax professionals if you are considering a gift to Lauralton Hall under this law. |
